Queen Maria electromobile
Experts of our company carried out the restoration of the exhibit of the Polytechnic Museum — Columbia Rauch & Lang and Detroit Electric electromobile. This car was given an individual name — Queen Maria.
For us, it was extremely exciting to work on the reconstruction of this electromobile. It was not just that restoration of an actual electromobile was completely new and out of our field of activities, but also that we really had our fingertips on the pulse of history in true sense of the words.
This exhibit made it to our venue in an utmost sad state — this is evident from the photos on this very page below. The restoration resulted in us completely recreating the appearance of this unique machine, which used to belong to Empress Maria and had been given as a present by Queen Elizabeth of England to Nicholas II. Initially, the car was purchased from U. S.-based Columbia Rauch & Lang and Detroit Electric.
Naturally, many things had to be done from scratch, using modern technologies and materials, but the goal we were after was finally attained — today, the visitors of the Polytechnic Museum may enjoy the actual looks of one of the first electromobiles produced.
Contemporary companies master new fuels, many a motor concern today work towards environmentally safe technologies — and that primarily is electricity. Most probably, the electromobiles have already secured future for themselves — it may well be that soon we will be using similarly constructed vehicles for our own transportation. The electromobile we restored had a cruising range of 50 km at the speed of 15 km per hour, and for its own time, no doubt, was state-of-the-art.
In the course of work on the project we came to know that an analogous car existed in the Beaulieu Museum. Here you can visit their official site.
